MATTES AND MULTIPLE EXPOSURES: 16MM TECHNIQUES WITH TOMONARI NISHIKAWA
In this 2-day workshop, a small group of participants will work closely with our visiting artist Tomonari Nishikawa to learn a multiple-exposure technique on the Bolex camera created through the used of complex mattes, a technique that Tomonari has applied to many of his own 16mm films. On the 1st day, after hands-on instructions about the camera and light meter, participants will make several mattes using filter holders then shoot a test roll of on Kodak Tri-X B/W film (200ASA). We will process the film immediately to check if the mattes and exposure would work as desired. On the 2nd day, pairs of participants will go outside and shoot on EKTACHROME color reversal film (100D) to each create and support one another in making short film using this technique. Finished films will premiere at Anthology Film Archives at a free public screening.
