SPOOL YOUR OWN 35MM STILL FILM FROM BULK CANS OF MOTION PICTURE FILM!

LEARN TO PURCHASE, BULK LOAD, SHOOT AND PROCESS 35MM MOTION PICTURE FILM AS STILL PHOTOGRAPHY FILM - UP CYCLE !

In this workshop participants will be introduced to the process of bulk loading your own 35mm still film. The ability to spool your own film will open a whole new world of film stock options for still photographers; discontinued film options, short ends, and rare stocks OR will allow motion picture film artists to location scout on the exact same film you plan to capture with on 16mm or Super 8. Each participant will learn to bulk load from larger cores of 35MM Motion Picture Film, we’ll discuss how to identify stocks for sale, resources for purchasing in the future, and how to shoot an exposure test to better understand its limitations and its possibilities as a still camera film.  Curriculum will also cover how to mix chemistry for and to identify if the ISO of the film has shifted. After we shoot a roll as a group, process and view the results, with your own camera you'll shoot and process a roll in the workshop. We’ll develop as a group, scan the film and each student will take home an additional roll of this film to shoot and process at a later date!  Bring your own 35mm still camera, then all film stock, canisters, chemicals and related equipment will be provided for. Scroll through the images below to see some of the fine grain results of B/W film we tested here. The course will cover all 35mm; color and black / white, and will focus on the BW chemistry process.
