INTRODUCTION TO 35MM - 4PERF
MOTION PICTURE FILM MAKING!
In this class participants will gain hands on experience loading, filming and editing on 35mm motion picture film. Curriculum includes film stock options, proper exposure, lenses, how to clean, load, focus, run, maintain and operate the ARRI IIC MOS 4-PERF camera kit with Prime Lenses. Participants will spend one evening familiarizing themselves with the camera package by filming a short end of 35MM portrait of themselves here with our seamless set up on VISION3 500T film. The following weekend/s will be spent shooting as a collective crew for each others short film productions. The goal is to film a short on 35mm which you conceived, directed, captured and edited within a film to film workflow. We will also discuss how to promote your short piece through a list of friendly film festivals. All related equipment, materials and services will be provided for including a scan of the finished work in 4K. Finished projects will be presented after the conclusion of the course at our screening party.

** A note here on the price of this offering * MONO NO AWARE offers FREE workshops to the public every year for the last 18 years. We organize introductory workshops for $50 that include a FREE future rental of equipment at equal value, we offer workshops for $175 that include film, camera, developing and scanning plus 100’ of stock to take home. It is our mission and vision to make traditional film making as affordable and accessible as possible to the public and to build community through that process. As this 35MM offering is our most “expensive” workshop, we wanted to briefly explain that if you were looking to rent this camera kit with lenses, purchase the insurance to cover the gear, pay to rent a car to move it all around, hire a crew to assist, hire someone to instruct you on the camera privately, purchase the film stock (film stock alone is $316.56), to pay for lab services to develop, 4K scan, then to have access to a 35MM editing table, splicer, and rent a theater to premiere the film for you and all your friends, if you wanted to do all of that independently it would cost well over $ 5,000.00+ Comparable opportunities to shoot on 35mm require registering through a University for a full term or flying out of the country for months. MONO NO AWARE has done everything possible to make this offering as affordable and accessible as possible to give you the ability to realize your short film idea on 35MM Motion Picture Film. Films made in previous offerings of this workshop look absolutely STUNNING. The edited films with more post work also look great, and one of the former participants. Erica Sheu, had their 35MM film made in this workshop screen at TIFF. All of that being said we hope to see you this Summer
