DIY CONTACT PRINTING TECHNIQUES

1 Session + Screening Party

Learn a variety of methods and techniques to create positive prints and how to edition moving image work from camera negative originals in this hands-on demonstration of D.I.Y. contact printing methods.  We'll talk about a range of applications, from direct contact printing using a sheet of glass, to modifying a sync block for the purposes of printing, re-purposing your Bolex as a contact printer and eventually using MONO's table-top contact printer capable of making prints up to 12 minutes long. (All equipment is accessible to you after the workshop is over!)  We'll discuss stock options, chemistry and effects, pros and cons with each method and set you up with the knowledge to duplicate your own films on film!  Includes 100 feet of Black and White print stock to take home at the end of the workshop for further experimentation!  Edition your own film, Duplicate rare found footage, Make an internegative from a positive, and better understand the contact printer’s place with-in a variety of work flows. Participants are encouraged to bring short scenes for the purpose of duplicating their film strips. Results from the demonstration will be presented after the conclusion of the course at a premiere screening at Anthology Film Archives.
