PLANT BASED COLOUR FORMING DEVELOPERS

Learn how to transform black and white film images into colour using plant-based colour forming developers.

Experimental processing artist Adrian Cousins introduces an overview based on several years of research and experimentation — using film developers that produce coloured images when used to process black and white film. Students will learn about the science, history and practice of colour-forming developers, how to identify potential developing agents using their molecular structure, how to create coloured positive films and how to re-process already developed black and white film producing colour dye images using easily obtained plant-based compounds - indigo, green coffee beans, Chaparral plant, grape skin extract, green and black tea and more.

INSTRUCTION:
FIVE+ HOUR DEMONSTRATION in 1 Session

SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 7TH - FROM 10 AM - 3:30 PM

LOCATION: MONO HQ 33 Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn NY 5 min walk from 2, 3, 4, 5, A, C, B, D, N, Q, R, & G trains.

INSTRUCTOR/S:  Adrian Cousins (UK)

Adrian Cousins is an experimental filmmaker exploring the emotional response to moving images created with  expired stocks, and obsolete and unique processes. His work is ‘consciously amateur’, with a focus on recording life and moments, often focussing on the tiniest of details illuminated by transient natural light.  The only person to have processed Kodachrome motion picture film in colour since its demise, he is currently focused on creating novel colour-forming developers and accessible diffusible coupler compounds.

INCLUDES: FIVE+ HOURS in 1 classroom instruction session. Each participant will film a self portrait of themselves on 16mm when they arrive. MONO will supply the Bolex camera, 16mm film stock and lighting studio. The portraits will be used to demonstrate the developers made in class and small sections of each developer will be passed out so that each person has a developed section for their notes.  All camera equipment, film stock, chemistry, materials, course packet and safety equipment will be provided.

COURSE CAP:  Limited to 12 participants

PRICE: $225 - 305 Sliding scale. In an effort to make the workshops more accessible to the community at large we have introduced a sliding scale option (below) All options are equal to one registration, and your selection will remain private.
