MONO NO AWARE AND THE GOWANUS DARKROOM INVITE YOU TO COME AND CELEBRATE THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE NON-TOXIC DEVELOPER CAFFENOL RECIPE WITH OUR VERY SPECIAL GUEST DR. SCOTT WILLIAMS WHO INVENTED THE FORMULA IN 1995!

Bring a roll of your favorite black and white negative film stock, any format and join us FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 12TH to learn how to process your black and white film using the classic caffenol formula - ALL FORMATS WELCOME : Super 8mm, 16mm, 35mm, Medium Format, 4" x 5", 70mm,  and the event is ALL AGES +   Everyone who attends will learn how to mix their own negative processing chemistry using a combination of consumable items from the grocery store. We will kick off the night with a few words from our special guest, Dr. Scott Williams, who will mix the first batch of the night! Then we’ll keep the party going with several variants of the recipe, All ingredients, equipment, and safety gear will be provided - Bring Your Own Black & White as an exposed roll/cartridge of black and white film, still or moving images. We will also have film dryer's, light tables, and projectors.  SCANNING FOR ALL FORMATS AVAILABLE from Gowanus Darkroom and MONO NO AWARE.

The 1995 Dr. Scott Williams and the Technical Photographic Chemistry Class in the Imaging and Photographic Technology Department at the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences of Rochester Institute of Technology, developed a method of developing photographic film using standard household items. They tested mixtures of tea and coffee combined with agents to balance the pH and successfully made printable images for exposed film. Come and celebrate 30 years with us!

INCLUDES:  All chemistry, development equipment, access to processing facilities and instruction packet. Participants should bring an exposed roll of B/W negative film.

PRICE:  $30. Having the small fee helps us to purchase gloves, pizza, beverages, coffee, beer, and PPE for everyone. As a gesture of our thanks we will provide a free scan of any format to participants who register, YES this includes S8MM or 16MM motion picture film! AND we’ll be printing a very special recipe card for everyone to take home with them commemorating the event.
