MATTES AND MULTIPLE EXPOSURES:
16MM TECHNIQUES IN HONOR OF TOMONARI NISHIKAWA
In this 1-day workshop, a small group of participants will learn the techniques shared with us by our former visiting artist and dear friend Tomonari Nishikawa. Learn a multiple-exposure technique on the Bolex camera created through the used of complex mattes, a technique that Tomonari applied to many of his own 16mm films. Workshop covers hands-on instructions about the camera and light meter, participants will make several mattes using filter holders then shoot a test roll of on Kodak Tri-X B/W film (200ASA). We will process the film immediately to check if the mattes and exposure would work as desired. Then pairs of participants will go outside and shoot on EKTACHROME color reversal film (100D) to each create and support one another in making short film using this technique. Finished films will premiere at a free public screening. ** This offering is a fundraiser for Tomonari Nishikawa’s family and 100% of proceeds will go directly to his wife and children. **
