PRINCIPLES OF LIGHTING FOR FILM & CINEMATOGRAPHY FOR THE NARRATIVE

Learn to visualize the narrative for your short film as we take a technical approach to Prepping, Scouting, Scheduling, and ultimately Lighting both Black&White and COLOR motion picture film.  SATURDAY & SUNDAY sessions will expand upon that knowledge with a series of complex lighting set ups and environments for the moving image both interior and exterior * weather depending.

In this month long offering participants will learn the fundamentals of lighting for black & white and color film. This class covers the essentials including: using light as a storytelling tool, using a light meter, understanding film stocks, intro to lighting units, creating contrast and depth through tone, understanding quality of light, controlling light, adjusting light intensity and 3-point lighting. Participants will spend three classroom sessions learning to visualize the narrative. Then the workshop will convene for two day-long sessions to explore cinematography possibilities interior and exterior.. Each participant will have time to set up and film their own scene. All film stock, equipment and processing services will be provided. Finished projects will also be presented after the conclusion of the course at our community screenings.

SATURDAY & SUNDAY OCTOBER 12th & 13th from 11 AM - 4 PM ** (INTERIOR & EXTERIOR BASED ON WEATHER)

LOCATION: MONO HQ 33 Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn NY  5 min walk from 2, 3, 4, 5, A, C, B, D, N, Q, R, & G trains.

INCLUDES: 5 sessions in total; 3 classroom sessions and 2 practical with a camera and camera operator. negative developing, lab processing, Access to lighting kit and seamless studio for demonstrations. 2K transfer of finished film. Course packet with technical information, online hosting of finished film, local & international film festival entry waivers.
