PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Generational Traces - Trazos Generacionales explores the ritualistic nature of memory, care, and migration through the lens of four generations of women in my family. In this work, 16mm film is literally entangled, as I explore the process of producing photo-grams on analogue film using my own hair. These abstract explorations are inter-cut with performance documentation filmed together with my grandmother, mother, sister, and nieces, alongside self-shot footage in the sea and lakes. Waterways act as a connecting element between these scenes, alluding to the role that water and oceans have played in our journeys, travels, and migrations.

Bio
(EN) Paola Guzmán Figueroa is a Colombian visual artist and experimental filmmaker based in Finland since 2013. Her practice combines analogue film, photography, and performance, exploring intergenerational memory, feminist narratives, and the body as a living archive. Drawing from personal and collective experiences, her work reflects on identity, migration, and belonging. She holds a BA and MA from the University of the Arts Helsinki, and a BA in Visual Arts from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá. Her work has been presented at Penumbra Foundation (NYC), Forum Box (Helsinki), and DocLisboa, among others, and she has undertaken residencies at LIFT (Toronto), Saari Residence (FIN), and Residency Unlimited (NYC).https://www.paolafernanda.com/
