DIRECT FILM MAKING ANIMATION TECHNIQUES
LEARN TO HAND-CRAFT YOUR OWN ANIMATED FILM IN 4 SESSIONS + PRESENT YOUR FILM AT OUR SCREENING PARTY
In this workshop participants will learn to manipulate the surface of the film using a variety of camera-less film making techniques; painting, scratching, bleaching, collage, and masking in order to create an original experimental film on 16mm. This intensive workshop is designed to introduce, explore and master (on some level) the ability to articulate movement through the tactile gesturings of this beautiful cinematic language. The course will begin with a brief history of filmmakers using these methods along with their contemporaries. Then, after brief instruction, students will get their hands dirty almost immediately. The goal is to have each participant work with found footage, original films and leader to create a well developed animated film. Participants will walk away with hands on experience of direct film making, a finished projection ready print, the knowledge to continue to work in this practice at home, and a list of venues to pursue for exhibition. All materials will be provided.
