UNDERWATER 16MM FILM-MAKING!
LEARN TO SHOOT 16MM WHILE SUBMERGED WITH THE BOLEX UNDERWATER HOUSING + PRESENT YOUR FILM AT OUR SCREENING PARTY
In this workshop participants will be introduced to the Bolex Underwater housing! This camera housing was introduced in 1955 to accommodate the H-16 Bolex camera for underwater filming. Although this unit is watertight down to depths of 330 ft we’ll keep it in the 1-5’ deep range in the shallow end of a rooftop pool ! This workshop will be in two sessions; the first will meet on dry land at the MONO HQ where each participant will learn to load, and operate the three controls located on the outside of the casing to operate the lens diaphragm, motor winding and camera release. During this first session we’ll also plan our shoots to be prepared for our sunset session. The second session will meet for the golden hour/s at the Sixty Hotel rooftop pool (pictured below-complete with 16mm andy warhol screen test frames ) during which time, each participant will be able to conduct a shoot with a full roll of 16mm Vision3 color negative film (roughly 3 minutes) You will leave the workshop with the knowledge to operate the machine independently for future use (beach shoots, pool, parties, water-balloon toss) - Your underwater reel will be processed, printed, then presented after the conclusion of the course at our screening party at Anthology Film Archives!
