SHOOT YOUR OWN B/W TITLES AS FILM OUT MOTION GRAPHICS OR ON THE OXBERRY ANIMATION STAND

LEARN TO CREATE TITLES ON 16MM FILM + PRESENT YOUR FILM AT OUR SCREENING PARTY

In this workshop participants will be introduced to one of two contemporary methods of making titles using Kodak's 7363 (Hi-Con) film stock; either as a “film out” to generate motion graphics on screen, OR as a traditional ‘back-lit’ title on the Oxberry Animation Stand. We'll work as a group to shoot a demonstration for the method, then each individual participant will generate an exposure test in order to determine how to best shoot their own title.  After settings have been identified, you’ll shoot 20’ of titles to edit into your film. Curriculum will cover the basics of loading ESTAR film stocks into your camera, how to conduct an exposure test, how to create static back lit titles from a printed cell OR how to make a ‘film-out’ for motion graphics.  We'll use the H16 Bolex Reflex camera, and prime lenses to shoot, various lab equipment along with a LOMO developing tank and an EIKI SSL-O projector!  We will go over key chemical reactions, how to mix our own B/W reversal chemistry, everything you’ll need to know to continue the process at home or at the MONO facility. All chemicals and equipment will be provided.  Put the finishing touches on your film with crisp b/w titles! Finished projects will also be presented after the conclusion of the course at our screening party at Anthology Film Archives.
