MATTE BOX TECHNIQUES
BUILD YOUR OWN MATTE BOX

THEN LEARN TO SHOOT SPECIAL EFFECTS ON THE BOLEX CAMERA + PRESENT YOUR FILM AT OUR SCREENING PARTY

In this workshop participants will be introduced to the basic principles of shooting with a Matte Box by building their own from parts and materials provided, then shooting with a Bolex to create special effects in camera!  All tools, parts, facilities, materials, film and chemistry will be provided for.  To purchase a matte box can be costly, in upwards of $400,  this workshop will teach you how to build your own and how to create simple and floating mattes for achieving various special effects.  Curriculum will also cover the important of lenses, focal length, matte creation, double exposure functions of the camera and determining proper distance from the matte.   We'll use the H16 Bolex Reflex camera, and prime lenses to shoot, various lab equipment along with a LOMO developing tank and an EIKI SSL-O projector!  The first day you'll build your very own matte box, and we'll collectively shoot a small test, then you'll have a week to plan out a special matte of your own that we'll shoot together at the second session.  Each participant will walk away with their own 16mm Matte Box for the Bolex camera plus you'll finish with a well planned short film sequence (approx 90 seconds) that will allow you to shoot with your own mattes.  Finished projects will also be presented after the conclusion of the course at our screening party at Anthology Film Archives!
