PROGRAM INCLUDES

Nothing is Something , Amina Gingold, 2023 (16MM BW film, Silent, 3 Min)
“Nothing Is Something” teeters between finding meaning in the nonsense of everyday life. Nothingness is an enormous void where we attempt to imagine the nonexistent. It’s a complicated gap where we compare the tangible to the intangible. When we contemplate this comparison, one might begin to understand it. Our perception of reality is altered when we drift toward these spaces. Time and space are equally affected by our ability to store memories of events, including where and when they took place. One might experience a sensation of déjà vu in a world where nothing makes sense.

Amina Gingold (b. 1998) is a photographer, filmmaker, and bookmaker living and working in New York, NY. She graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 2020 with a BFA in photography and video. Her work was shortlisted for the Palm Photo Prize in 2022, featured in "The 2020 Lenscratch Top 25 to Watch", and exhibited at SoMad Studios, 10 14 Gallery, SVA Gramercy Gallery, and Chinatown Soup. She spends her time immersed in analog and experimental techniques, which aid in exploring concepts of misremembering, gut instincts, and the complications of uncovering the truth.

With this series we ask that each presenting artist identify a non-profit they wish to bring attention to and support through this screening. Amina has selected The Lower Eastside Girls Club. The Lower Eastside Girls Club connects young women and gender-expansive youth of color throughout New York City to healthy and successful futures through free, innovative year-round programming and mentoring.

Please consider making a donation to support these efforts.

OPEN AIR SCREENING SERIES:
The OPEN AIR SCREENING SERIES allows for 16mm film projection viewing with social and physical distance guidelines in place. 16mm film prints are projected, on loop, from dusk until dawn. Each artist receives an honorarium to support their practice and a new print of the work struck at MONO LAB. Each artist is asked to select a non-profit for a portion of the proceeds to benefit, a donation will be made in their name. And, YOU the audience are invited to enjoy the work, take part in the conversation and we ask that you consider making a donation as it directly supports the artist and the organization with which they share concern. This screening series is supported by the New York State Council for the Arts (NYSCA).
